Magic subway station - 3d environment

School Project | Unreal Engine, 3Ds Max & Substance Painter

Capstone Project (Humber Polytechnic)

This project explores a stylized environment set in an abandoned subway station repurposed as a hidden marketplace for magic users. The space functions as a secret gathering point where wizards trade potions, brooms, and other enchanted items, combining elements of urban decay with subtle magical interventions.

The environment was designed with a focus on mood and spatial storytelling, aiming for a cozy, exploratory atmosphere suitable for a third-person game experience. This project also served as an opportunity to further develop storytelling through props and environmental composition.

The scene was built using a modular workflow to efficiently construct the environment and maintain visual consistency across assets. Props such as subway signage, market stalls, potions, books, and magical items were created to support the narrative context of the space.

From a technical standpoint, the project was developed in Unreal Engine, using Lumen for lighting to achieve a soft and immersive atmosphere. Simple Blueprint systems were implemented to control lighting elements, along with stylized visual effects such as a smoke and fire circle to enhance the magical tone of the environment.

I developed this project entirely from scratch, leading every stage of the production process from initial concept to final render. This included ideation, blockout, modular asset creation, 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, lighting, and technical implementation in Unreal Engine. All elements in the scene were created and integrated by me, ensuring a cohesive visual direction and consistent execution across the entire environment. The project was completed thanks to the guidance and mentorship of Megan Macdonald, Dan Foran, and Cory Avery.
